Firefighter Johnny Lewis (LODD)

On Sept. 7, 1991, Firefighter Lewis made the ultimate sacrifice while checking for hot spots after the extinguishment of a six-alarm fire at a motorcycle shop. While in the building, the hot gases ignited, which caused what’s known as a flashover. After the flashover, the ceiling collapsed, injuring three firefighters & taking the life of Firefighter Lewis. At his time of death, Lewis was part of NOFD’s Special Operations Unit “Flying Squad.”
